The Boucher Philosophy
"My goal is to contribute something that will be here long after I'm gone and to help develop every person's individual potential."
Boucher Consultants was started after I had worked as a counselor with young adults in Sarasota, Florida. I worked with drug addicts, alcoholics, runaways, and early pregnancies. I had a caseload of kids who had been labeled "losers."
This was a hard label to overcome, especially because they had been called "losers" most of their lives. Our staff was very involved with the students. I loved my job and my boss, Mr. Chuck Eaton. We invested every ounce of energy we had into our young people. As a result, we saw miracles happen with our students. It wasn't without a price, however.
In those days, teachers didn't have in-service programs where they learned how to rejuvenate themselves. I was beginning to have lots of serious stress symptoms. One symptom that I vividly remember was that all the craziness began to seem normal. I remember walking around the grounds one day singing Peggy Lee's song, "Is that all there is?"
I decided to take a leave of absence and I returned to Dayton, Ohio, my childhood home. I entered Law School at the University of Dayton and within a year I received a message that my former boss was dead. We believed the stress killed him.
While I attended the University of Dayton, I was teaching at Sinclair Community College, University of Dayton, and Wright State University. I often thought to myself -- there must be a better way to help people and not burn out. I decided to research all that I could about the "Human Potential Movement."
What I learned and observed over the next few years from the best and the brightest leaders convinced me that a few key principles can transform people and businesses.
Soon, I was asked to speak to an audience of 1,000 people in Toledo, Ohio, on the subject of Self-Esteem and its impact on productivity. The enthusiasm of that audience and their profound desire for achievement and growth was the birth of Boucher Consultants.
